Pat Dando Sculpture Dedication
Pat Dando, who passed away in 2017, was a San Jose City Council member and Vice Mayor that represented the Almaden Valley for 8 years in the late 1990s and early 2000s. She was also a staff member to the former Mayor Tom McHenry and the head of the San Jose-Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce. Given Pat’s legacy to community service, a Foundation was established to promote stroke awareness and for the benefit of the City of San Jose Public Library Foundation. In her honor, a bronze sculpture depicting her reading to two young children was commissioned and created. The statue is placed at the entry to the Almaden Public Library and Community Center in San Jose.
HMH worked closely with Biggs-Cardosa Associates who supported the structural calculations for the statue. HMH’s role in this memorial project was providing civil engineering, surveying, and landscape services. The landscape designers guided the contractors on layout and concrete specifications, selected a flowering tree from the south, and offered construction assistance. The end result is a sculpture dedication that honors a passionate woman with a heart for service. Pat will always be remembered for her philanthropy, advocacy, and meaningful contributions to her community.
