San Jose Municipal Water Facility

We’re proud to support the City of San José in the development of the new Municipal Water Facility through landscape architecture and civil engineering services. This project spans multiple phases including entitlement, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration, all with a focus on efficiency, sustainability, and user-centered design.

The facility includes key infrastructure such as an administrative building, a storage and maintenance building, and an on-site water tank. Security and accessibility were carefully planned, featuring a fully fenced perimeter, pedestrian and vehicular gates, and electric vehicle charging stations for both staff and fleet use.

Sustainability is a core element of the design. The site includes an integrated stormwater treatment system to ensure full compliance with environmental regulations. This project features employee-focused outdoor spaces designed to foster connection, relaxation, and activity. The entrance and concrete paving of the employee area are thoughtfully designed with patterns that nod to water-like waves, reflecting the facility’s purpose. Amenities include a shaded patio with dining tables, a custom table tennis setup, communal gathering areas, and both long and short-term bicycle storage to support an active lifestyle.

Landscape features include custom gabion benches, organic inspired walkways and retaining walls that add both functionality and visual interest. The planting design emphasizes low-water-use landscaping, featuring edible, fruit-bearing trees that contribute to a healthy environment. A smart irrigation system with moisture sensors and programmable controls promotes water efficiency, and the facility is ready for a future transition to recycled water.
