Sustainable Planting
In honor of World Landscape Architecture Month, we want to highlight the incredible benefits of using native and drought-adapted plants in our landscape designs. As a multidisciplinary firm with a strong landscape architecture team, we pride ourselves on creating spaces that not only enhance the beauty of our local environment but also promote sustainability and support biodiversity.
Native and drought-adapted plants are an essential component of sustainable landscaping. These plants have evolved to thrive in the unique climate and soil conditions of our local communities, making them both water-efficient and low maintenance. By incorporating these plants into our designs, we help conserve our precious water resources and reduce the need for harmful chemicals, which can have negative impacts on the environment.
Additionally, we take great care to include a variety of pollinator-friendly plants in our designs, promoting a thriving ecosystem that supports vital pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Pollinator plants, like the California Poppy, Cleveland Sage, and Coast Sunflower, are not only visually stunning but also provide essential food and habitat for these important species.

To create yearlong interest and support a diverse range of wildlife and insects, our firm incorporates mixed planting strategies. By layering different plant types, textures, and colors, we design gardens that are not only visually appealing but also provide a range of habitats for native species. This encourages a balanced ecosystem and allows our clients to enjoy the beauty of their landscapes throughout the year.
We are fortunate to have a diverse plant palette to choose from here in Northern California, including iconic species such as the Coast Live Oak, California Buckeye, and Toyon. By thoughtfully selecting and combining native and drought-adapted plants in our designs, we create landscapes that are not only beautiful but also environmentally responsible.

This World Landscape Architecture Month, let’s celebrate the power of native and drought-adapted plants in transforming our outdoor spaces into sustainable, thriving ecosystems. Together, we can continue to create landscapes that not only enhance the beauty of our region but also support the health and well-being of our planet.
