160 & 178 E Tasman Drive

Tasman Square, located in San Jose, is an 8.5 acre, 2 building commercial office project. HMH collaborated with AAI, a Nelson brand, to transform outdated buildings segregated by a parking lot into a unified common area with modern amenities. Once divided by asphalt, Tasman Square is now a seamless extension of the interior, with a rich variety of outdoor living opportunities for lounging, dining, and all-hands on group meetings.
The original median divided parking lot sat at two different elevations, making grading of the site a challenge. A turnaround at the back of site and manipulated parking layout transition between these elevations, allowing for a centralized courtyard. Framed by monumental steel and wood slat shade structures, the courtyard provides two large-scale designated outdoor kitchen and dining spaces with custom concrete board form BBQ islands and linear overhead lighting. An oversized concrete feature wall with vertical wood fins creates privacy from the rear parking lot. Curvilinear seat walls along with specimen Oaks, bioretension gardens, and lush planting soften the sleek architectural lines.
